PARIS IN THE SPRING

One of my more sought after songs.  This started out life as a jazz piece, and had a working title of "Extreme Egyptian"...  It's a modern fairy tale with a moral - perhaps we dream of having partners in people who enjoy the limelight - but in fact the reality may be very different. In our case, the singer is confined to seeing images of his beautiful partner through the eyes of the photographers who snap at her for fashion magazines.  Be careful what you wish for guys.  More...

Did you plan a holiday - again
When a gambler gets the cold
And the evening's drawing in
So I guess you fly away again
Suitcase in the hall, a sparrow in the fall
But I know you and I know you'll be back again
With your hundred little things
See you in Paris in the Spring

See you're gone without my heart
  - again
And it's a game we played before
Oh don't I know that score
Just a collection for the man
 who thinks I own her
So I'm home, you fly
 away again
What litter autumn
 brings, your
  hundred little
   things
I know you and I
 know you'll
  be back again
When the sparrow
 starts to sing
See you in
 Paris in the Spring

(break)

Cause you got all
  that style and
    grace
No sticking power
You can't face
   the cold of a
   winter's day
When the flash of
  the camera
   fades you
just roll away

So I guess
 you're gonna
  hibernate
Some sunny
 foreign clime
In the
 mountains
  of your mind
But I'll catch
 you, oh I'll
   catch you
    again
A sparrow
 and her
  string
See you in
 Paris in
the Spring
